Dear Meadowview,
I have a personal update that I wanted to share with you. This does not affect the Pastoral Search or transition here at Meadowview, but as I love you and I know you care, I want you to know about a new development for me and my family.
As you know, the first 3 months of 2025 have been extremely trying for me (surgery, uncle’s death, grandfather’s death, grandmother’s death, sickness, announcement about leaving Meadowview, multiple trips to FL doing memorials/burials). I’ve rested in the provision of Christ as I’ve heard the Lord say in 2 Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
After my grandfather’s funeral I learned that my sister’s family is moving out of Florida this May. After my grandmother’s funeral, I learned that my aunt’s family (the primary caretakers for my grandparents) also plan to move out of Florida to be closer to their own kids.
Why do I tell you this? Well, the death of my grandparents and the impeding moves of two close families, means my aging parents will soon be alone in Florida. That has caused me great sadness and concern.
In April of this year, I learned that the Ministry to State (MTS) position in Florida was soon to be vacant. Through much prayer and investigation and given the above circumstances, Susan and I believe it is best that I become the next State Capitol Minister to Florida, rather than in North Carolina. That request was just approved by both MTS and the PCA’s MNA last week and I just received the official confirmation today. This will put us in closer proximity to my folks.
Brothers and sisters, we take the orchestrating and timing of these events as from the Lord. I don’t take this change lightly and in February of this year I never would have considered it as I was extremely excited to minister to our elected officials in NC and we weren’t looking to move. However, a lot changed for my family in March and in April the Lord provided a new solution that only makes sense in light of March.
As I mentioned, this does not affect my plans here at Meadowview at this time nor does it affect the Pastoral Search plans. 2025 has been a sweet time serving Meadowview, preaching John’s Gospel, leading the Session, and doing life with all of you. Unless something else changes, I still anticipate finishing out the year here and through next January. The Congregation will vote to release me of my call in early January in time for the January Presbytery meeting to accept that.
As the Session has been working on the “Church Profile” document and is preparing to take nominations from the Congregation for the Pastoral Search Team in June, I’m excited to think the Lord already knows who He will be calling to be the next Senior Shepherd of Meadowview.
I’m praying for this. Please pray for me and my family in all the transitions that will be taking place. God’s got this!
God Bless,
Pastor George
