Children’s Ministry Director (Part-Time) Job Description
The Purpose of this Position
The Children’s Ministry Director position exists to serve alongside the Assistant Pastor
and Session in overseeing and managing ministry to the children of Meadowview (ages
3 years–5th grade) in support of the overall mission, vision, and philosophy of MRPC’s
next generation ministry. Our Children’s Ministry Director must be someone who loves
Christ and His church, is committed to prayer and the teaching of God’s Word and
understands children’s ministry as gospel-centered discipleship—not entertainment.

We believe that ministry to children is essential for the health and future of the church.
This work will not be accomplished through flashy programs or an entertainment culture,
but by the work of the Holy Spirit through teaching the essentials of the gospel in a safe,
welcoming environment. We aim to partner with families, encouraging and equipping
parents in the work of discipleship. These great responsibilities are given to both
parents and the covenant community by God Himself (Deuteronomy 6:6–9; Psalm
78:1–8; Matthew 18:2–6).
Areas of Responsibility
- Wednesday Night Children’s Program
- Bible Hour
- Children’s Worship Training
- Vacation Bible School
- Work in coordination with Assistant Pastor, Nursery Coordinator, and church staff
- Fellowship/Service Events (Christmas, Easter, End of School/Beginning of School,
etc.)
Scope of Position within Areas of Responsibility
Wednesday Night Program and Bible Hour
- Pray regularly for children and volunteers
- Review, choose and plan curriculum along with the Assistant Pastor
- Recruit, equip, and manage a volunteer team of teachers and other support personnel
- Ensure classroom space is set up, clean and safe
- Prepare materials and technology for use
- Be available/prepared to fill in where needed
- Seek to build relationships with parents and visitors
Vacation Bible School - Work alongside the Assistant Pastor to determine theme, dates, and plan
- Develop a ministry plan for volunteers, seeking first to delegate major responsibilities
- Co-lead meetings with volunteers to introduce theme and delegate responsibilities
- Plan and lead a volunteer meeting about a month before VBS to discuss
responsibilities, points of emphasis, safety, etc. - Coordinate VBS set up with the Facilities Director
- Plan and lead a VBS workday, incorporating help from the youth and other ministries
within the church

Fellowship/Service Events
- Plan a fellowship event around both Christmas and Easter
- Coordinate service/outreach opportunities for the children’s ministry (Operation
Christmas Child, Angel Tree, etc.) - Be involved in planning for end of year event and summer bash as needed
- Assist in planning other periodic fellowship events along with the Assistant Pastor
General Children’s Ministry - Assist in maintenance and implementation of the child safety & protection policy
- Make sure the background checks of all volunteers are up to date
- Assist in a vision and strategy for the recruitment, development, and management of
volunteers - Keep regular communication with parents
- Prepare weekly kids’ bulletin and coloring sheets for young kids during service
- Have an activity for children at every church event
- Meet regularly with the Assistant Pastor for prayer and planning
- Attend monthly staff meeting
- Utilize children’s ministry budget for spending on materials and other needs
- Track hours to maintain an average of 10–20 hours per week
- Work alongside and support Nursery Coordinator
Reporting Responsibility
Report directly to the Assistant Pastor, under the oversight of the Senior Pastor and
Session.
Personal Requirements
- A commitment to prayer, the study of God’s Word, and a godly life that models Christ
and reflects a grace-centered approach to life and ministry - A member in good standing of Meadowview Reformed Presbyterian Church, or willing
to pursue membership upon hire - Adherence to the Westminster Standards and the Constitution of the Presbyterian
Church in America - A zeal for Christ-like service to children, families, and volunteers in our care
- A teachable and flexible spirit
- A desire to grow in ministry leadership and in love for Christ’s church
