This past Sunday, we shared with the congregation that Michelle Speas stepped down as our Children’s Ministry Director at the end of February. We’re thankful for all the ways she served our children and families, and grateful for the care she gave in leading this ministry.
In this interim season, the Elders are taking direct oversight of the workload as we begin the search to fill two open staff positions. We’ve divided responsibilities into five key areas:
- Sunday Morning Bible Hour – Kevin Miller
- Wednesday Night – Ken Kuhn
- Children’s Worship Bulletin – Dan Wilkins
- Nursery – Richard Jones
- Cleaning & Classroom Care – Ozzie Marin
The Elders will help coordinate these areas. At the same time, the Elders have begun searches for a new Children’s Ministry Director and a new Nursery Coordinator.
More important than structure, though, is perspective.
When we take baptismal vows, we promise before the Lord and one another to assist parents in the Christian nurture of their children. That means children’s ministry isn’t just a program to staff or a way to fill volunteer slots. It’s a covenant responsibility we share. This is why we are committed to teaching in the nursery, catechizing our children, and intentionally training for participation in gathered worship.
In this season, especially, we want to remember: our children are not a side ministry. They are members of the covenant community, and their formation in Christ belongs at the heart of the church’s shepherding work.
To that end, we are asking for volunteers to aid in this important work. You don’t have to feel “gifted with kids” to serve. You simply need to be willing to use the gifts the Lord has given you — there is meaningful work for all of us.

As for the open positions, we are currently seeking:
Children’s Ministry Director (Part-Time)
We are seeking someone who loves Christ and His church, who is committed to prayer and the teaching of God’s Word, and who understands children’s ministry as gospel-centered discipleship — not entertainment.
This role oversees ministry to children (ages 3 years–5th grade), including Bible Hour, Wednesday night programming, and special events such as VBS and seasonal fellowship gatherings. The Director will recruit and equip volunteers, help choose and implement curriculum, partner intentionally with parents, and ensure that our ministry environments are safe, organized, and welcoming.
We are looking for someone who is theologically aligned with our church, able to lead and organize well, and eager to build relationships with both children and families.
Nursery Coordinator
We are seeking someone who sees the nursery not as childcare, but as the beginning of covenant discipleship. This role oversees nursery volunteers, scheduling, communication, and safety policies to ensure a secure and loving environment for our youngest children.
The right person will be dependable, organized, and committed to creating a space where parents can confidently entrust their little ones during worship and ministry events.
