Guest Speaker:  Manuel Padilla

Although born into a Puerto Rican family, Manuel grew up as a “military kid” living in various countries. He came to faith in Christ in the first year of college through a campus ministry. Kim his wife, was born in the Boston area where she grew up and came to trust Jesus in her early years. Manuel and Kim met while preparing to serve as short-term missionaries to South Africa. Their shared faith and vision for the global church motivated them to further prepare for missions. Shortly thereafter, they married (September 1985) and attended Reformed Theological Seminary where Manuel earned his M.Div. in Missions and Kim commenced her teaching profession. After being ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America, they served for 13 years as church planting missionaries in Spain where they had the privilege to evangelize, equip leaders and plant a church. In 2005 they transitioned to church planting in El Paso, TX, on the US/Mexico border. By God’s grace Las Tierras Community Church (LTCC) was established with a DNA to serve the border community of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, MX. Manuel and Kim have three adult children who are all married, and two wonderful grandchildren. Along with their dog Skye, they reside in El Paso, TX where Kim is a dedicated middle school teacher. She loves reading, baking and crocheting. Manuel enjoys cycling, Manuel and Kim now have a call to once again serve the global church, particularly the Latin American church. Currently, they serve with Equipping Leaders International ( ELI). Now they look forward to leveraging their nearly 30 years of cross-cultural ministry to teach and disciple Latino pastors in the grace and truth of the gospel of Jesus as instructors across the growing number of training partnerships ELI has.

Silent Auction

The Silent Auction proceeds this year will be used entirely to assist World Relief. World Relief is an evangelical organization here in the US working to both settle refugees and immigrants coming to the US as well as to rescue victims of human trafficking. They are also the only evangelical organization out of the 9 in the US who have been tasked with settling well-vetted refugees coming to the States to start their new lives. These refugees are fleeing persecution and unrest in their home countries. A large increase this year in refugees needing resettlement means an opportunity for churches in the triad including Meadowview to come alongside World Relief to assist in this work. 10 Afghan families will be resettled in the triad area, along with refugees from other countries. The money we raise will be used to help with their housing, food, healthcare, finding employment, and legal services. Besides monetary help, we have an opportunity as a church to work directly with these families doing home set-ups and helping them navigate their new lives in our “strange” culture and in this way being the hands and feet of Jesus. Please talk to members of the missions team if you have an interest in serving in this way.
