Here is a new blog post, “The Danger of Dread“, from a very astute counselor and author whose writings I have grown more and more fond of in recent years. Even if we are not as far down the dreadful road Dr. Welch describes in this post, he very succinctly and very accurately puts his finger on so many of our propensities to want to take control of our religion. But our religion isn’t a system that we can control. It involves a relationship… a relationship with the King and Savior who won’t be squeezed into our molds nor conform to our expectations. Yet He has clearly shown us in His word who He is. He is sovereign but not a despot and perfect but not a perfectionist. Rather he is like Psalm 103 tells us He is:
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always chide,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
